Welcome to the University of Melbourne Baseball Club! We’re so glad that you’ve joined our club.

This page runs through all relevant information to get you ready for your first game.

Your checklist:

step 1

Registration and/or Clearance Form

If you have never played winter baseball, or haven’t played in over 4 years, complete new player registration form and email to uombaseball@gmail.com

If you’ve played winter baseball for another club in the last 4 years, please complete clearance form and email to uombaseball@gmail.com

step 2

Baseball Victoria Registration

No player can participate in an official match until this registration has been paid and completed. It’s very important for all players to complete their registration before Round 1.

Here are the steps for completing your BV registration:

  1. Click the link below to go to Baseball Victoria portal.
  2. Click ‘Sign Up’ and create your login.
  3. Enter your personal details. Make sure to tick ‘BV Player’ at the bottom of page 1.
  4. On page 2, make sure that both the Baseball Australia  & Baseball Victoria components are ticked.
  5. Fill in the rest of the details and complete payment.

If you experience issues with your Baseball Victoria registration, you can contact the UMBC Secretary uombaseball@gmail.com or the Baseball Victoria Operations & Competitions coordinator competitions@baseballvictoria.com.au

step 3

UMBC Club Fees

Where do your fees go?

Club fees go towards club costs, such as team entry fees, club equipment, facility hire and coaching fees. You can pay your club fees through the link below or via the club canteen.

When are club fees due?

Winter club fees are due and payable prior to Thursday 27 April. Anyone who has not paid their fees by this date will be ineligible to play until their fees are paid or a payment plan is established.

What support is available for paying club fees?

We understand that some players may need support to meet the upfront fee, especially new players that must also invest in uniforms and equipment. Our goal is to get players onto the field, and we are committed to making this happen.

  • Payment plans: If paying your fees in one hit is an issue for you, please contact us at uombaseball.treasurer@gmail.com to discuss a payment plan.
  • Sport Access Scholarship: Melbourne University Sport proudly offers students facing financial hardship with a complimentary fitness membership and a subsidy towards joining a Sport Club or Intervarsity representation. Learn more about the Sports Access Scholarship.

step 4

Uniforms & equipment

Uniforms

  • Pants: grey baseball pants, or tracksuit pants for developing levels
  • Belt: royal blue
  • Warm-up top: either a royal blue shirt or the Melbourne Uni one ($20)
  • Game top: order your game top through our online shop. For new players, we can share a few tops for the first few weeks but you will eventually need to buy your own top.
  • Socks: royal blue knee-high socks
  • Cleats: football boots or baseball cleats will do so you don’t slip over
  • Hat: Baseballers wear hats! So don’t forget to bring one if you have purchased a club one yet.

Uniforms can be purchased and picked up at the Selection Night, or picked up from the Ross Straw pavilion on game days.

Equipment

  • Gloves: some club-owned gloves will be available for players to loan.
  • Bats: all teams have access to team bats.
  • Catching gear: all teams have access to a team kit of catching gear.

You can purchase baseball uniform and equipment from:

If you are considering what bat or glove to buy, have a chat with the coaches for advice on the right size and quality for you.

step 5

Communications

Stay connected with the coaches and committee throughout the season.

Our main method of communication to players is via our Facebook Group, email, and team-specific Messenger group chats so please turn on your notifications and keep an eye on your inbox for weekly updates on training plans, upcoming events and team selections.

step 6

Team selection & fixtures

Team selections for Round 1 will be announced at Selections Night (the Wednesday night before the season starts). After the teams are announced, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with your team manager and team mates to talk through logistics, expectations and any questions you have.

During the season, the seniors’ and women’s teams are announced each week via our Facebook Group and email. There are opportunities for a player to be selected in different teams during the season, depending on what each team needs and how you’re developing. If you have questions about your team selection and skill development, have a chat with your team manager to understand how you can reach your goals.

On gameday, it’s your responsibility to know when and where you’re playing. The location and time for your games are listed on the weekly selections announcements. You can access the fixtures and a list of the baseball club addresses through the MWBL website.

You're all set to go!

See you at the club soon. If you have questions throughout the season, have a chat with the coaches or the committee members at training or at Ross Straw.
